LAMY Studio Palladium Fountain pen
－ Another Excellent Work of "Lamy" －
The Lamy Studio is a simple flattop pen, no bells and whistles for the most part... Apart from one distinct design feature: the unique 'propeller-style' twisted clip. It's a simple but beautiful aesthetic detail that defines the entire pen. Apart from looking good, the clip also functions quite well. It ends in a nicely rounded circular shape, which makes it easy to clip onto something.
Right next to the clip, you can find a small laser-engraved logo. Lamy's minimal branding (apart from that on the Safari and Al-Star) is something I always enjoy seeing. It's very unobtrusive, and I actually like the way it looks, in contrast to some pens where I think the branding disturbs the design. I really love the humbleness of German fountain pens such as Montblanc fountain pens except the fashionable limited edition such as William Shakespeare Limited Edition or Leo Tolstoy Limited Edition and so on.
Anyway when I found the studio in a pen shop, the studio series fascinated me then and there. However, I didn't like to buy it because it had only steel nib. I had already many steel nib fountain pens including Lamy Safari. I knew Lamy's steel nib was excellent but the price was very high comparing with the other pen companies' ones.
Lamy offered 14K gold nib studio one or tow years later. "Lamy Studio Palladium." The color was my favorite and the price was reasonable for 14K nib fountain pen. I bought the Palladium Coat, there's no reason not to buy it and still now it's one of my favorite collection.
I personally find this one of the most comfortable pens Lamy makes, apart from maybe the Lamy 2000. But experiences regarding comfort vary quite wildly if you read different reviews. It all depends on one thing: the grip section.

一方で、ラミー2000のように、シックで飽きない金ペンを作り続けている。万年筆を作る企業ならどこでも少なからず、その企業のコンセプトを持っている。幸か不幸か、日本のメーカーには、そのメーカーの万年筆作りにあてるコンセプトが曖昧だ。よく言えば、柔軟な姿勢とも言える。日本の万年筆が世界で一番売れているのは、そんな理由かもしれない。
さて、私がラミー・ステュディオを初めて見たとき、強い印象を持った。それは、今までのラミーとは違うコンセプトで作られていたからだ。形はシックだが、色が確か２色、黒と青だったと思う。
この黒と青は確かにラミーらしい綺麗な色だった。そして何より、このステュディオの特徴であるプロペラ型クリップも見たときは、そのデザインの良さに驚いた。
それで一度は買おうと思ったが、思いとどまった。売り出されたときは、スティールのペン先しかなく、金ペンはなかった。ステンレス・スティールのペン先ならペリカンが優秀なものを売り出していて、それを持っていたので、このステュディオもサファリの延長線にあるようなものだと思ったからだ。デザインは明らかに一線を画していたが。
それから数年して、パラジューム・コートの14金ペン先が売り出された。前のステンレスと比べて少し重いと思ったが、この軸の形とクリップの洒落たデザインはそれを相殺してなお余るものがある。
このパラデューム・コートは、人によっては持ちにくいという意見を持つ人もいると思う。他のステュディオはグリップ部分がラバーだったり、軸自体が滑らないので、そちら好みだと思われるのは尤もなことだ。しかし、私は、このパラデュームの色が好きで、筆圧も軽いので、満足している。
買ってから数年が経つが、今でもよく使うコレクションの一つになっている。
